Having been on quite the little adventure, courtesy of my new sat nav, I arrived at the beautiful farmhouse in St Issey where Amy and Nick and some of their closest friends and family were staying to celebrate their marriage. This was a house filled with excitement and the busyness of a wedding day morning as four bridesmaids, three flower girls, two page boys, the parents and other family members got ready for the celebrations. I found Amy sitting on a bed calmly painting her nails (amazing, who manages that on their wedding day?!), checking that everyone had what they needed and talking to excited little ones, complimenting them on how lovely they looked – she was so relaxed and seemed to be enjoying every moment as she headed towards her aisle-walk.
Amy’s mum, who is not only one of the loveliest people you could ever wish to meet but also Britain’s very own Martha Stewart in her abilities to make things beautiful, gave me a little tour of where the day’s events would be taking place and let me in on a special secret that had been arranged for Amy and then, details photographed and most people ready to head to the church, it was time for Amy to get into her dress and go to meet her groom. As she appeared, amy was beautiful and radiated happiness, her dad wept (as all dad’s should) as she made her way down the stairs and I was so touched by the very special relationships within this family – what an honour to spend this day with them and witness these precious moments.
After very nearly forgetting her bouquet, Amy headed outside and was met by her surprise chariot for the day – Stella. Never have I seen a bride so excited by her wedding vehicle, there was a scream and there was laughing and the biggest of smiles and throughout the journey (I got to go along too – up front with the driver!) Amy kept thanking everyone, including the 1966 vintage VW herself and giving her little words of encouragement if she ever found one of the mean Cornish hills a challenge! Stella forced people to look and, whether she noticed it or not as the nerves had set in a little, Amy got many smiles and waves and beeped horns as she headed towards Padstow Parish Church – it was a lot of fun and I don’t think I stopped grinning the whole way.
Amy’s dad lead her down the pathway to the church doors where she was met by a teary eyed bridal party and before long they were headed down the aisle. With forty guests having travelled to Cornwall with them for the wedding, the ceremony was intimate and wonderful with everyone the couple loves standing close by to witness as Nick and Amy became husband and wife and afterwards, as they burst into the sunshine to the celebratory sound of wedding bells, there were more tears and hugs and lots of laughter. The guests headed back to the house to get the reception underway and Amy, Nick, Stella and I went to the beach. Amy was a superstar as she tackled the sand in her high heels and the two of them were congratulated constantly by friendly beach goers, we worked quickly to get our photographs so that they could get back and join the party, stopping at one more location so that Amy could climb a gate for a few “countryside” images (told you she was a star)!
The reception was, just like the rest of the day, perfect. With wonderful speeches and personal touches everywhere – a garden strewn with candles and lanterns in the trees and bushes, a beautiful (and very delicious) cupcake tower made by Amy’s mum, delicious food and children playing happily. I left in the evening happy to have been at this wedding and at the same time sad that it was over, I was however sent away with a box of cupcakes and there is only so sad a girl can be when leaving with such a treat!
Amy and Nick, thank you. I loved your special day and truly am thrilled to have been there. Enjoy your “at home” reception and may you have a long and happy life together always surrounded by the wonderful people I met at your wedding. x

Amy’s bouquet looked like it could have been picked from the garden that morning – beautiful.

Always need a shoe shot!

The dress was simple but dreamy with it’s gauzy layers and hint of sparkle

Nick’s soon to be mother-in-law helping out with his buttonhole.

It was not a good day for English football but support was shown anyway – ever hopeful!

I loved Amy’s hair, simple and elegant…. she is also the only bride I have ever seen re do her hair in the back of a VW without a mirror – that is talent.

Smiles at the door of the church.

The expressions on Nick, Amy and her dad’s faces here are wonderful.

Married and off on a VW adventure!

A quiet corner of the beach…

These two make me smile.

Oh Stella…

It’s so great when a bride will climb a gate!

Watching the ponies through the garden fence at the reception.

A fun little confetti sequence coming up, I had to put all three in……

And finally, the whole family – the day was very exhausting for little Harry but he pulled off his suit (which he isn’t wearing here) very well and was every bit as gorgeous as he was in April!
